Dynamic Section Control – Alias

Dynamic Section Control – Alias Surface Studio

The above model is looking rather nice for a Concept model,

but there are some big surface issues that need to be put right

Dynamic Section Control – Alias Surface

Using this tool with Visual Clipping checked, it’s easy to see that my nice concept model has some major surface continuity problems, which MUST be put right

because I didn’t check the angle of the bumper surf (corner)  earlier I didn’t spot the twist in the bumper

I then went on to build the apron to an incorrect surface boundary resulting in the big inflexion that can clearly be seen here

NB: This tool will create a construction plane for any cross section that you demand and this I’ll use to view the section in True View

2

I’m taking a look from another angle here to see the extent of the problem

“A” the bumper angle is cutting back too much

“B” because the top of the apron is built to the bumper it has created an inflexion

3

A = end of spoiler

B = bumper

C= Inflexion

4

Here I’m looking at the x-sect in True View

and using the combs to show where all the surfacing issues are

$= Combs/Quills cross showing the inflexion

A= Inflexion in the Bumper’s top surf

B= Bumper angle incorrect

C= Inflexion between Apron and Bumper vert. surf

The Big Fix!

Here I have

  • Isolated the section
  • Changed my working x-sect crvs to deg. 5,.1.
  • Aligned all the crvs
  • corrected the top bumper inflexion
  • Moved the intersection point of Bumper & Apron out to eradicate the inflexion
  • Created<curvature conditions for the apron crvs

Now I can rebuild the bumper and Apron using the above X-Sext crvs.
