Learning Alias sponsors the Education of children in Nepal. This is Deepana and we need to raise money to put her through Nursing College in Kathmandu. Learning Alias Blog is a free service, but if you would like to show your appreciation, please make a small donation. 100% of your money will go directly to pay Deepana’s college fees. Without the help of sponsors in the developed world, Deepana would receive no education whatsoever, as she comes from a remote Hymalayan village. Thank You for your kindness, graham bullock.

This post is dedicated to Dex Woodard, one of my students up in Denver Colorado and features his work
He was building the Audi A5 on a distance learning program arranged by his university, who don’t offer Alias. Dex really wanted to learn Alias and got his college to agree to out-sorce the training role to me down here in Andalusia, Spain.
Dex is a talented designer and created this second (concept) model changing the A5 SB into a sports car.
Dex Rendered the A5 in Alias
He wanted it to look like a car and not a model and preferred Alias as his tool
The white car-paint has the following mapped to a basic white shader
- Cloud jpeg
- Color gradient (dirty white – bright white)
Windscreen Shader Mapping:
- Sun-down gradient (dk. blue – sunset red – light blue)
- Exhibition Hall jpeg
- Cloud jpeg
The mapped jpegs are made transparent in PShp. circa 10%
He decided to turn up the reflectivity on the Glass shader,
to create the shininess, that the white car paint just doesn’t give
The white shader has a clear coat shader overlay
There are very few lights in this scene. an Ambient set at 0.3 and several directional lights set at 0.4
I am very proud to call him my student and perhaps more universities will take up the baton and allow students to learn Alias via Internet based Trainers, such as myself.
If you are a student , stuck in a university that doesn’t offer Alias, perhaps you should talk to your Head of Design Fac.
cheers
graham

For student’s who have the objective of finding a CAD job in the near future, I still teach One to One students and all of these students get Automotive Modeling or Design/Modeling jobs, so it’s a great investment to make.
