These are pictures of a students Class “A” Blending on Her Audi A5 1:5 scale

Notice how evenly and smoothly the Zebra Stripes run, describing not only the surf. boundary curvature conditions, but also the internal curvature of the surfs.

This surf-set comprises just 7 surfs. and they are nearly all BiRails.

REND-1

Its not a bad piece of modeling. Well! Alright then , it’s very good

I have scrutinized her work closely and all the surfaces that she has created are single span. When you first start modeling , you use multi-span surfs. all over the place and create Heavy Geom. This gives poor Rendering results, but much more importantly takes a lot longer on the CAM (Computer Aided Milling Machine)

Milling.

There is always a big back-log of models to be milled in the Automotive Industry, so models with heavy geom. are not wanted. Also if your model has light geom. it may well jump the cue, which your Designer will love you for.

So, just some of the many skills you will learn on my course:

  • Complex Blending Strategies and Techniques
  • Creating Difficult Surfaces Using Only a Single Span in both U and V.
  • Creating a String of Surfaces which are Colinea
  • Problem Solving Trim Edge Surf. Boundaries
  • Cretae Surfs. with Even CV Hull Distribution
  • etc.

No bones about it, this is what will get you a job in Automotive Modeling !

cheers

graham
