Learning Alias sponsors the Education of children in Nepal. This is Deepana and we need to raise money to put her through Nursing College in Kathmandu. Learning Alias Blog is a free service, but if you would like to show your appreciation, please make a small donation. 100% of your money will go directly to pay Deepana’s college fees. Without the help of sponsors in the developed world, Deepana would receive no education whatsoever, as she comes from a remote Hymalayan village.  Thank You, graham bullock.

The vast majority of my students go on to find Alias Automotive jobs, which usually include the opportunity for further training

Alias CAD Parting Lines that Maintain 0.5mm Width in All Views

I needed to build some accurate parting lines for a student. Here’s What My first Try  Looks Like

I have built parting lines on model mobile phones and remotes, down to 1mm, but somehow building good shutlines on a car body seems a lot harder to achieve. Two obvious reasons for this are

  • Surface curvature is very complex and finding the correct “geometry view” is often pretty tough
  • There are often a multitude of small surfaces to project onto and trim, especially around areas like radial wheel arches

Alias Automotive correct partinline technique. Widths spec. varies with each peoject. Widths can be from 3mm to 12mm on a Defender or similarFillet Flange tool on both sides and then skin the bottom to seal off the model's volume

  • Select only the surfs. that you really need to have in view and then >Hide Unselected all other surfs. so that your view is as simple as it can possibly be
  • Don’t make the p-lines any deeper than is asolutely necessary

This makes the tedious job of building parting lines easier
