Building a Sports Car in Autodesk Alias

The Inner Shoulder Line and Main Center Surfaces

It’s very important to build a very good quality curve for the inner shoulder, as this is perhaps the most important styling line after the YO lineAs you can see I have taken a lot of care to view this line from as many aspects as possible. If you can find any lumps or inflexions in it, you must sort them out before you continue, if you don’t sort it out at this stage, you are merely building massive defects into your main surfaces and your model WILL failOnce I got the shoulder line looking good, I mirrored it across the XZ and used the 2 curves to build a square surf. Next I increased the number of isoparms, as illustrated and then used the proportional Modification tool to pull the CV’s to produce a positive crowning in the surface.

Bulges on top of Wings

Here I projected 2 rectangles onto the hood top and built square surfs. onto the resulting C_O_S’s. I added extra CV rows to all 4 edges of the rectangular surfs. I needed 3 rows of CV’s close to each of the 4 surf. boundaries in order to maintain Positional alignment later when using the Prop.Mod tool to pull the CV’s. This is work in progress and the baby surfaces have not yet been blended into the parent surface

Aligning the Square Surfaces to the Parent Surface

Often when I build a Smaller surf. onto a parent surf. I don’t get Positional Continuity, so I delete the C_O_S ‘ s and create new C_O_S ‘ s using the Project Normal tool SET to 0.001mm. Once that’s done I use the Align tool to establish “P” at all boundaries. To Learn Alias Automotive to Industry entry level has been made easier.
